Garlic chutney - Ingredients

Things you need:

Mortar and pestle or Electric mixer- grinder

Pot or pan

Preparation and cooking time:

30 – 40 minutes

Directions:

  1. Add garlic cloves, salt and cumin to mortar. Grind them into a fine paste. (you can also use an electric mixer, but hand-crushed tastes better !! )
Tip: Metal or stone mortar would be better than a wooden one for this chutney.
  2. Add red chili powder to paste and slowly mix them. Once it is mixed, add coriander seed powder and mix again.
  3. Heat oil in pot or pan, and add this paste into it. Continuously stir them on medium heat. Once paste absorbs all oil, turn off the heat and set aside to cool down.
Garlic chutney is ready to eat and serve.
  4. You can store this in a glass jar with an airtight lid. It will stay good for 15-20 days.

Chilli powder and salt can be adjusted as per your taste.

Fun fact:

Most people in Gujarat eat this garlic chutney with bhakhri in breakfast, along with some homemade white Makhan or ghee.

This garlic chutney can also be used instead of plain garlic paste in your daily cooking to add some extra element to your regular dishes. That’s what Gujaratis do…
